World of Hanna-Barbera Cartoons
Eric Homan, Russell Hicks
Format: PDF / Kindle (mobi) / ePub
This book was produced as a catalog in conjunction with a gallery exhibit at The Museum of Television & Radio in New York City, June 23-September 24, 1995. Produced by the Hanna-Barbera Cartoons Animation Art Department (by Eric Homan and Russell Hicks) it showcased the limited edition art the studio created over almost 40 years.
The 1990s was the height of popularity for ‘animation art,’ the original production cells, pencil drawings, and storyboards from classic cartoons and movies. Even though Hanna-Barbera had never saved its own artwork, founders Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera signed ‘sericels’ (new, poster-like art put on celluloid, to recreate the feeling of an original production cel), and the studio became a leader in the marketplace.
After several years of rebuilding, the Animation Art group decided to release this limited distribution commemorative book of its best releases. Only several hundred copies were produced during a limited production run.
The 134-page full-color book includes artwork such as storyboards, production drawings, background work and model sheets from nearly all of Hanna-Barbera's extensive catalog of televised cartoons. Shows featured in the book include: The Huckleberry Hound Show and Quick McGraw in the 1950s, The Flintstones, Yogi Bear, Jonny Quest, Space Quest and The Jetsons during the 1960s, Scooby-Doo in the 1970s, The Smurfs & Snorks from the 1980s and even Pirates of Dark Water in the 1990s.
